Outfit #2

Today we picked this navy dress.
First I cut off the sleeves, cut down the body of the dress and then sewed it back together.
I also sewed the side ties together to make a belt.
 Cut and hemmed the dress.
I made the flower hair tie from the excess lining.
Tomorrow, I'm going to make a matching hand bag from the left over material.
 Cheeky monkey :)
Love Nikki xx

I love the results, so far. I used to do this for my daughter occasionally, when she was younger.

As a child, some of my favorite dresses where ones my Mema had cut down for me from her dresses. There was usually rick rack and trim involved. When my kids were young and money was beyond tight I was known to buy over sized skirts and such at thrift stores to remake into jumpers and skirts and doll clothes. Teddy like to match.Your girls are right that some things are too pretty to get rid of. The memories they will have of the dresses and process of making them will last a long time.

I found your blog via your comment on newdressaday...I love what you've done with this dress! I wish it was warm here like it appears to be in those photos, too...
Anyway, my mom used to alter dresses and other items for me. She also used to trim up the great big poofy (once trendy) bridesmaids' dresses she had from the eighties and got us the best costume supply. Just another idea! :)
